…another latte art competition, ugg!

Phoenix 2nd Annual SouthWest Latte Art Competition finds the simple and engaging platform of latte art to showcase the craft amongst the baristas and the community! It’s a shame more chefs and cafe owners aren’t making latte art the entry level signature of a great beverage. It’s plating, in the cup. There’s a reason why I stand behind events like these because latte art may be old hat to a few of us “old folk” in the industry but it has not reached the masses, yet.
Every single time I cover a bar shift there are always impressed new patrons, astonished at the milk’s ability to contrast in the cup. Sometimes a latte art competition style event is how we make new introductions for specialty coffee.Trust me these events are SUPER necessary, we are at a point where consumers are learning what quality should look and taste like. This art and process still deserves a platform, an audience and a winner. We must continue to push events like these until our patrons start saying, “ugg, another latte art competition.”
If you want to help out, impress the Chefs and Patrons of Phoenix find your way out to the 2nd Annual Southwest Latte Art Competition held in conjunction with Phoenix Cooks, 2011 September 3!
